Extended cookie policy and how I use your personal data

Cookies are small data files that a website you visit may save on your computer, smartphone or tablet memory and that can be transmitted back to the website itself to get or transfer different types of information.
There are:
– session cookies
– persistent cookies
– third-party cookies

Cookies can expire at the end of a browser session (every time the user closes the window) and they are called session cookies. They are used for example on e-commerce websites so you can continue browsing without losing what you put in your cart.
Other cookies can expire at a specific date or after a specific length of time, so that information will be transmitted to the server every time the user visits the website that it belongs to, or every time the user views a resource belonging to that website from another website. They are called persistent cookies and are used to remember your passwords and login info so you don’t have to re-enter them every time.

Third-party cookies

Based on website or domain origin, a cookie can be a first-party or a third-party one. First-party cookies are set and managed by the website’s owner himself. In this case, he has to inform the user about the cookie policy and ask him if he wants to enable/disable cookies.
It can also happen that a website uses cookies coming from other websites or it features content from external websites, such as banner advertisements. This opens up the potential for tracking the user’s browsing history, and is often used by advertisers in an effort to serve relevant advertisements to each user and most of the times users don’t even notice them. In this case, third-party websites have to inform the users about their cookie policy while the website’s owner only has to indicate the third-party links.

How I use cookies on my website

I use cookies to remind you that I have already informed you about cookie policy not to bother you every time you visit my website.

Other information you may want to know:

– this website, built with WordPress, can recognize you as a registered user or a logged user when you comment a post: you can read Automattic privacy policy (the WordPress company maker);

– at the bottom of my blog posts or portfolio projects there are some “likes” and sharing buttons for the following social networks: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google +; sometimes I embed content from Instagram or videos from Youtube. All of them uses their own cookies, for example to recognize your account if you are logged in. If you want to know how they use your personal data, please have a look at their privacy policy:

– I use Google Analytics to get anonymous statistics about my website’s visitors.
As million website’s owners, I like to know how many people read my website, how many pages they open, how long it takes to get them bored, where they come from, which devices they use.
To get these data, I use Google Analytics, an excellent free service by Google; I set Google Analytics in order to anonymise your IP address.
The information gathered by Google Analytics cookies are used to track and analyse how users surf the website and they are sent to me through Analytics reports in an anonymous way.
If you want to know more, read Google Analytics privacy policy here.

I use Google Analytics data to understand what you like and your interests, to improve my website content.

If you don’t feel at your ease or don’t agree with it, you can download this tool to disable Google Analytics tracking: it is free and it runs on almost any browsers.

Contact and comments form uses

If you write to me from Contacts page, through Contact Form 7 plugin, I use your personal details to reply. If you write to me by e-mail or you leave a comment on a post, your data will be recorded on my Gmail account or on my website backups; I am responsible for the processing of your personal data and I will use them only for the purposes described above.

How to block cookies

You can set your browser preferences in order not to save cookies, or to delete them any time you close the browser window. There is a service, Your Online Choices, which shows you cookies details and how to disable them, one by one.

You can limit, block or delete cookies by activating the Do Not Track option and the anonymous web surfing that can be easily found on any browser. For more info, read more on:
